Former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has congratulated Mr. Austin Avuru on his appointment as a non-executive director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited by President Bola Tinubu, urging him and the newly constituted leadership to drive transformative reforms in the oil sector.
Omo-Agege in a press release signed by his Media Adviser, Mr Sunny Areh also extended his congratulations to the new Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), Engineer Bashir Bayo Ojulari, and the non-executive chairman, Ahmadu Musa Kida. He emphasized that their appointments align with President Tinubu’s ambitious plan to position NNPC Limited as a global force in the energy sector, increasing crude refining capacity and attracting substantial investment.
Addressing Avuru, who hails from Delta State and represents the South-South region on the board, Omo-Agege described his appointment as a strategic move to harness his decades-long expertise. "Given President Tinubu's vision of increasing investment in the oil industry to $30 billion by 2027 and $60 billion by 2030, your appointment is a deliberate one to leverage your sterling antecedents. You are excellently equipped to impact Mr. President's achievable plan," he stated.
Avuru, a seasoned geologist with over 40 years of experience, was the founding CEO of Seplat Ltd and played a pivotal role in listing the company on both the London and Nigerian stock exchanges. His extensive industry contributions, including leadership roles in professional bodies, underscore the expectations tied to his new position. Omo-Agege expressed confidence that the board’s collective experience will help actualize Tinubu’s goal of boosting Nigeria’s refining output to 500,000 barrels per day by 2030.
