The Executive Director of Projects (EDP) at the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Olorogun Dr. Ebenezer Okorodudu, on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, carried out an extensive inspection of projects within the DESOPADEC mandate areas.
Speaking to DESOPADEC Media team after the tour, Dr Okorodudu commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his commitment to infrastructural development in oil-producing communities, highlighting that the M.O.R.E. Agenda has driven investments in impactful, people-oriented projects.
“The primary responsibility of any government is to maintain law and order, but over the years, governments worldwide have also focused on development. The Health Center at Obodo in Warri South is a clear example, aimed at improving the lives of rural dwellers. We observed some challenges, which we will address to enhance the project’s impact,” he stated.
During the visit, the Matron of the Obodo Health Center, Nurse Okpoko Violet, expressed gratitude to DESOPADEC for the initiative and appealed for staff quarters to be built to improve service delivery.
Dr Okorodudu emphasized that the ongoing inspections are aimed at ensuring that all projects meet the required specifications ahead of commissioning in the coming months.
At the Ubeji Modern Market, he noted that both the lock-up and open stores have been completed, stressing the need for an equitable allocation process that prioritizes ordinary citizens.
“The Sheriff Oborevwori-led government is one for the people, by the people, and for the people. When the allocation process begins, we must ensure that the common man benefits,” he added.
He also described the College of Education Administration Block in Warri South as a key DESOPADEC project that will significantly enhance the institution’s infrastructure and address office space shortages.
“This is a major project, not just for DESOPADEC but for the entire state. It requires substantial funding, and I will relay to the Board the urgent need for its completion,” he assured.
At Warri Club, where fencing, drainage, and swimming pool projects are ongoing, Dr. Okorodudu lauded the contractor, the club’s president, and its members for preserving the institution’s legacy.
“Warri Club is a historic institution, a pride of Delta State, established in 1924 and still thriving. I commend the leadership for partnering with DESOPADEC to execute this landmark project,” he remarked.
The team also inspected the installation of a 500 KVA transformer in Omadino Community, Warri South Local Government Area, among other ongoing projects.
The EDP was accompanied by a delegation including Engr. Tony Okuwe, Executive Assistant (Projects); Mr. Festus Ifowodo, Head of Utilities Department; Engr. Elliott Olokor, Head of Projects Monitoring and Evaluation (PME); Engr. Friday Money, Head of Works Department; Engr. Evans Omene, Technical Assistant to EDP; Engr. Mathew Onokpasa, Special Assistant to EDP; and Dr. Fredrick Adu, Head of the Medical and Safety Services Department at DESOPADEC.
