Ohanaeze Ndigbo Denies Apology Claims Over 1966 Coup: A Detailed Analysis

The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, has strongly refuted allegations made by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) that he intends to issue an apology to the Fulani ethnic group for the events of the 1966 coup.
This statement was made during a gathering in Owerri, Imo state, as reported by The Nation.
Iwuanyanwu expressed his disappointment and pain over the spread of false narratives about the Igbo people’s involvement in the coup, which he deemed as a purely military affair.
The President General clarified that the recent retreat held in Enugu was focused on the development of Igboland and did not involve any discussions about apologising to the Fulanis.
He emphasized that the Igbo community played no part in the 1966 coup, describing it as a military event that should not be attributed to any particular ethnic group.
Iwuanyanwu highlighted the Igbos’ contributions to Nigeria and their commitment to peace and unity, stating that the spread of misinformation about their involvement in the coup was disheartening and unfounded.
He reiterated that Ohanaeze Ndigbo, as a leading Igbo socio-cultural organization, would never apologize for events they were not responsible for.
Furthermore, Iwuanyanwu addressed the absence of Southeast Governors at the meeting in question, explaining that their busy schedules prevented them from attending.
He emphasized that the meeting was well attended, with over 200 participants, and received positive feedback from around the world.
The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has made it clear that the Igbo community should not be held accountable for the events of the 1966 coup.
The organization remains committed to fostering peace and unity in Nigeria and will continue to work towards the betterment of the Igbo people and the nation as a whole.
