Ogun State Shuts Down Unregistered Nursing Training Institute

The Ogun State Nursing and Midwifery Committee (SNMC) in collaboration with the state Ministry of Health has taken decisive action against an unregistered nursing training institute in Abeokuta.

The institution, iFaat College of Nursing Sciences, was found to be conducting nursing training without proper accreditation from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).

During a routine monitoring exercise, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Kayode Oladehinde, who was represented by the acting Director of Nursing Services and Chairman of SNMC, Mrs. Serifat Aminu, stated that the institute lacked the required infrastructure and personnel to offer standard nursing education.

Dr. Oladehinde emphasized the importance of adhering to the NMCN’s guidelines for nursing programs and warned the public to be cautious about institutions claiming to offer nursing sciences courses.

He stressed that certificates obtained from unaccredited institutions would not allow graduates to obtain a license to practice from the NMCN, potentially leading to the emergence of quacks in the field.

The proprietor of the institute, Stephen Fatula, responded to the situation by acknowledging the need for proper accreditation and expressed his commitment to following the regulators’ terms.

This move by the Ogun State authorities sends a strong message that the government is taking proactive steps to ensure the quality of nursing education and protect the public from potentially dangerous practices.
