Ogun State Shuts Down Food Agro and Allied Industries for Environmental Violations

The Ogun State Government has taken decisive action by shutting down Food Agro and Allied Industries Limited, located at Kilometre 40 on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Ijako, in the Sango-Ota area of the state.

The closure is a result of the company’s repeated environmental infractions and violation of government orders.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment, Alhaji Farook Akintunde, who also serves as the Chairman of the state Taskforce on Environmental Compliance and Enforcement, explained the rationale behind the government’s decision.

According to Akintunde, the company was found guilty of bypassing its Effluent Treatment Plants, leading to the release of untreated wastewater into the environment, including the newly rehabilitated Lagos-Abeokuta expressway.

This act not only damages public infrastructure but also exposes residents of the area to severe hardship.

Additionally, the company was found guilty of oil spillage, which is harmful to the environment and can have detrimental effects on the groundwater of its immediate communities.

Despite previous attempts by the state government to persuade the company to correct these infractions, the company continued to ignore the directives and flagrantly disobeyed a stop-work order.

In response to the company’s repeated violations, the Ogun State Government had no choice but to shut down the company to restore environmental sanity in the area and prevent further degradation of its immediate communities.

The company will remain closed until all identified infractions are corrected and certified by the state government.

As regulators, the Ogun State Government is committed to enforcing necessary environmental compliance and ensuring that businesses adhere to regulations.

The recent action against Food Agro and Allied Industries Limited serves as a reminder to other companies that the government will not tolerate environmental violations and will take decisive action when necessary.
