...To offer free transport for Army recruitment candidates
Delta State Governor, Dr. (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori, has successfully lifted over 275,000 Deltans out of poverty through strategic job creation and wealth empowerment initiatives within the past 22 months. The beneficiaries include youths, women, and entrepreneurs across the state’s three senatorial districts.
This was disclosed by the Director General of the Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, during a media chat on Orientation Panorama, aired on Voice of Delta Radio and monitored in Asaba.
Dr. Oghenesivbe praised Governor Oborevwori’s exceptional leadership, particularly in infrastructure development, economic reform, and human capital investment. He noted that Delta State currently ranks as the 4th richest state in Nigeria by GDP per capita, estimated at $2,506 — a testament to the state's steady socio-economic growth.
Highlighting efforts to further expand employment opportunities, Oghenesivbe said the governor has been actively encouraging young Deltans with secondary school qualifications to pursue careers in the military and paramilitary sectors. This includes applications to the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) and the Nigerian Army’s ongoing 89th Regular Recruit Intake (RRI) exercise.
He outlined the benefits of military service, including pensionable employment, federal sponsorship for higher education up to the doctorate level, and steady monthly salaries — all of which present viable career paths for young Nigerians.
In line with the governor’s commitment to inclusive empowerment, Oghenesivbe announced that the state government, through the State Awareness Creation Committee on Youth Enlistment into Military and Paramilitary Services, will provide free transportation for all shortlisted candidates participating in the Nigerian Army 89th RRI screening exercise.
The screening will be held at the Cenotaph Complex in Asaba from Monday, June 2 to Monday, June 16, 2025, starting at 7:00 a.m. daily. Free transport will be made available to and from the venue to ease access for candidates across the state.
“Our governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has empowered over 275,000 Deltans in less than two years through multifaceted job and wealth creation initiatives. His MORE Agenda is transforming Delta into one of Nigeria’s most prosperous states — all without relying on borrowed funds,” Oghenesivbe said.
