Obi’s Aide Denies Religious Politics Allegations, Emphasizes Support for All Faiths

Dr Yunusa Tanko, the spokesperson for Peter Obi, has denied allegations that the 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP), is engaging in religious politics.

Tanko clarified that Obi’s actions are purely altruistic and aimed at supporting underprivileged Nigerians of all faiths.

The statement was made in response to claims that Obi was visiting religious places to conduct political campaigns off-season.

Tanko emphasized that Obi has always been committed to the welfare of the underprivileged, a principle he believes is an assignment from his creator.

He further stated that Obi’s charity work predates his political career and that any insinuations of co-mingling politics with religion should be disregarded.

The spokesperson stressed that Nigeria is a secular state and that Obi fully understands the constitutional separation of church/mosque and state.

He urged the public to see these allegations as a strategy to limit Obi’s freedom of movement and his efforts to provide aid to those in need.

The statement comes amid a backdrop of attempts by some individuals to malign Obi’s intentions and link him to frivolous, malicious, and unsubstantiated allegations.

Tanko assured the public that these efforts would not deter Obi from continuing his philanthropic work and focusing on the welfare of the underprivileged.

As the political landscape in Nigeria continues to evolve, the clarification from Obi’s camp serves as a reminder of the importance of separating personal charity from political motives and the commitment to the welfare of all citizens, regardless of their faith.
