Obi Condemns Army Retaliatory Attack in Delta, Urges Restraint and Justice

The Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has spoken out against the alleged retaliatory attack by the Nigerian Army in response to the killing of Nigerian army officials in Okuoma, Bomadi LGA, Delta.

Obi condemned the retaliatory attack and urged security agencies to exercise restraint and avoid transferring their anger onto innocent members of the community.

In a statement released on his official X account, Obi stated that a retaliatory attack on the community cannot compensate for the death of the soldiers.

He emphasized that the act of killing security personnel on a peacekeeping mission is censured and accursed by all right-thinking Nigerians.

However, he also condemned the emerging reports of arson attacks on the community, calling them equally unpalatable and wrong-headed.

Obi stressed that two wrongs cannot produce a right and that reprisal arson attacks on the community could result in the loss of innocent lives and render innocent citizens homeless.

He called for the apprehension of the real perpetrators of the original ignoble act and urged the security agencies to bring them to book.

The former governor of Anambra State also acknowledged that the Government of Delta State had been working to address the situation before it escalated and urged Governor Okowa not to relent in his efforts to minimize damage.

He called for the involvement of all community leaders to calm the situation and expressed his sympathy to all the bereaved in this unfortunate incident.

Obi urged security agencies to be considerate and avoid transferring their anger onto innocent members of the community.

He emphasized the importance of bringing the perpetrators to justice and called for the involvement of all community leaders to prevent further escalation of the situation.
