Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, has revealed that over ₦30 billion worth of development projects are currently underway in the region, facilitated through the Federal Government's special intervention funds under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
In a statement posted on his official Facebook page Wednesday evening, Senator Nwoko said the projects are strategically focused on infrastructure development and agricultural advancement, aiming to significantly improve living standards and economic productivity across Delta North and neighboring areas.
“These projects, funded through Mr. President’s special intervention initiatives, are designed to address critical infrastructure deficits and enhance agricultural productivity in the region,” Nwoko stated.
A major component of the ongoing developments falls under the purview of the Benin-Owena River Basin Authority. Key among them is the construction of water treatment and reticulation systems tied to the now-completed Ogwashi-Uku Dam in Aniocha South.
In Aniocha North, the Senator also highlighted the Idumuje Dam project, which has already received over ₦7.5 billion in funding. The initiative is aimed at improving regional water management and agricultural output.
“We’re focusing on building irrigation infrastructure to support year-round farming,” he said, “while also providing quality seedlings, fertilizers, and farm equipment to our local farmers to strengthen food security.”
Senator Nwoko attributed the successful rollout of these projects to his collaboration with President Tinubu and key Federal Government agencies, noting that the initiatives align with both his campaign promises and the broader national development agenda.
“These interventions represent not only my commitment to my constituents but also our shared vision for a more prosperous Delta State,” he affirmed.
Earlier that day, Dr. Michael Nwoko, the Senator’s Chief of Staff, led a technical team to inspect the Idumuje Dam site. He confirmed that the feasibility studies have been completed and incorporated into the national budget, with design and construction phases set to begin soon.
The dam, according to Dr. Nwoko, will be a modern facility equipped with a water treatment plant, home distribution systems, and hydroelectric components. “Our objective is to ensure a reliable and safe water supply for communities throughout Delta North,” he said.
He also noted that Senator Nwoko had played a pivotal role in attracting the Ogwashi-Uku Dam project during his earlier tenure in the House of Representatives (1999–2003), further underscoring the Senator’s long-standing commitment to infrastructural development.
“With both Ogwashi-Uku and Idumuje dams now in motion, we are on course to resolve the region’s age-old water distribution challenges,” he added.
“These projects stand as a testament to Senator Nwoko’s people-centered leadership and his unwavering commitment to delivering on his promises,” Dr. Nwoko added.
