Nwoko applauds NSC bold move to revive sports media in Nigeria

In a landmark push to revitalize Nigeria’s sports media landscape, Senator Ned Nwoko has applauded the National Sports Commission (NSC) and its Chairman, Mr. Shehu Dikko, for spearheading a transformative initiative aimed at fully restoring sports broadcasting in the country by year-end.

Describing the initiative as “a bold and commendable move,” Nwoko voiced his strong support during an inspection and strategy session that convened top stakeholders from Nigeria’s media and sports sectors.

The revival effort falls under Chairman Dikko’s ambitious “3Rs” agenda—Reform, Rebuild, Restore—designed to overhaul outdated infrastructure and usher in a new era of modern, world-class sports broadcasting in Nigeria.

Central to the initiative is a strategic partnership with Thompson Broadcast of Paris, the original manufacturers of critical transmission and broadcast equipment. Their involvement marks a significant step toward ensuring technical precision and global-standard upgrades.

Key media organizations, including the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), and Voice of America (VOA), participated in the technical review and facility inspections, endorsing the plans for a sweeping rehabilitation of the nation’s broadcasting capacity.

“This initiative goes beyond infrastructure,” Senator Nwoko emphasized. “It’s about reigniting national pride, empowering athletes, and ensuring Nigeria’s sports narrative is broadcast to a global audience.”

The comprehensive project is expected to not only boost the visibility of Nigerian sports on the world stage but also serve as a platform for youth empowerment through innovation, technology, and sports-related careers.

Reaffirming his commitment to the project, Senator Nwoko stated, “I stand fully behind visionary efforts that elevate our nation and open doors for the next generation.”

With a clear strategic framework and robust collaboration between domestic stakeholders and international partners, the NSC’s initiative could mark the dawn of a new broadcasting era—positioning Nigeria as a continental leader in sports media innovation.
