NSCDC Arrests Minors for Attempted Rape, Vandals in Ebonyi State

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ebonyi State has arrested three minors for an alleged attempt to rape another minor and assault.

The State Commandant of the Corps, Dr Elijah Willie, revealed the arrests and discussed the increasing cases of minors engaging in such acts, which he believes reflects the moral decadence in society.

Two of the suspects are aged 15 and 13, while the third suspect, currently on the run, is also a minor. The incident occurred in Ishielu Local Government Area of the state.

The arrested minors will be transferred to relevant juvenile authorities for necessary rehabilitation.

Dr Willie called on relevant stakeholders to take action to address the growing trend of minors engaging in such acts, emphasizing the importance of protecting the future of the youth.

One of the minors, however, denied involvement in the attempted rape, claiming he only reprimanded the victim for abusing him.

In a separate incident, the NSCDC also arrested two suspects for alleged vandalism of electricity cables at the Ebonyi International Shopping Mall.

The suspects, aged 21 and 22, hail from Amasiri in Afikpo North Local Government Area of the state.

Dr Willie warned vandals to stop engaging in such acts and urged stakeholders to sensitize the people, especially the youth, about the consequences of vandalism.

He noted that the suspects would be prosecuted after the completion of the investigation.

The arrests highlight the challenges faced by the Nigerian society in addressing issues of moral decadence and crime among the youth.

As the government and stakeholders work to address these challenges, the NSCDC remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of the people.
