NSCDC and Journalists Join Forces to Combat Insecurity in Imo State: Unveiling the ‘Information Not Disinformation’ Campaign

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has joined forces with the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Imo council, to launch the “Information Not Disinformation” campaign.

This initiative aims to enhance security through responsive journalism and accurate reporting, thereby fostering economic growth and development in the state.

Commandant Matthew Ovye unveiled the campaign at the state’s NSCDC headquarters in Owerri, lauding the chapel for its timely initiative.

He emphasized the importance of correcting disinformation to improve security and promote economic activities.

The NSCDC remains committed to protecting critical national assets through its anti-vandal and agro rangers units, as well as the special intelligence squad of the commandant-general (CG), Ahmed Abubakar-Audi.

The corps expressed gratitude to the C-G and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, for their unwavering support in creating an enabling environment for the activities of security agencies, media, and other stakeholders in the fight against insecurity.

The NSCDC has also sought the partnership of journalists for its “Safe Schools” project, which aims to secure pre-secondary schools across the state.

Commandant Ovye acknowledged the role of the media in the fight against insecurity and urged journalists in the state to collaborate with the corps in this endeavor.

In response, the Chairman of the Correspondents’ chapel, Chinonso Alozie, thanked the commandant for his proactive approach to addressing the challenges of insecurity in the state.

He assured the corps of the Chapel’s commitment to professional reporting and emphasized the importance of partnerships for a more responsive journalism.

The Correspondents’ Chapel is currently conducting sensitization visits to security agencies in the state, promoting the need for effective collaboration to ensure accurate and informative reporting.

Following the conclusion of these visits, the “Information Not Disinformation” campaign will be officially launched, marking the beginning of a new era in which misinformation by quacks will be a thing of the past.

With the NSCDC and journalists joining forces, the fight against insecurity in Imo State is set to be more robust and effective.

The “Information Not Disinformation” campaign will not only promote accurate and responsible journalism but also foster a safer and more secure environment for the people of the state.
