Nollywood Actor Norbert Young Shares Insights on Gender Pay Gap and Industry Growth

Veteran Nollywood actor Norbert Young recently shared his thoughts on the gender pay gap in Nigeria’s film industry and how women tend to earn more than men.

In a candid interview, Young explained that women’s higher earnings can be attributed to their bargaining power and the fact that people love and appreciate what they do.

The 63-year-old Warri-born actor also discussed the evolution of Nollywood, the need for pension schemes for senior performers, and how the government can support the industry’s growth.

Young emphasized that every actor has their own bargaining power and that better is relative, as everyone has different priorities and needs.

Addressing the issue of unwell actors seeking donations for medical assistance on social media, Young pointed out that this practice is not unique to Nollywood and can be seen all over the world.

He believes that because it is Nollywood, everything is magnified and blown out of proportion.

As the Nigerian film industry continues to grow and evolve, discussions about gender pay gaps, actor welfare, and government support are becoming increasingly important.

Norbert Young’s insights shed light on the current state of the industry and the challenges it faces.

The film industry in Nigeria has come a long way since its inception in the early 1990s. Today, it is the second-largest film producer in the world, in terms of the number of movies produced annually.

However, despite its success, the industry still faces many challenges, including piracy, lack of funding, and inadequate infrastructure.

By addressing these challenges and promoting a more inclusive and supportive environment for all actors, Nollywood can continue to thrive and produce high-quality films that resonate with audiences both in Nigeria and around the world.
