No Suspension for El-Rufai: Kaduna APC Denies Rumors

The Kaduna chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied rumors suggesting that former governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai would face suspension from the ruling party due to alleged anti-party activities.

APC spokesperson in Kaduna, Salisu Wusono, dismissed the rumors in a statement on Tuesday evening, stating that there is no such plan by the party leadership to suspend El-Rufai.

Speculation about a possible suspension arose following El-Rufai’s recent visits to notable political figures.

The former governor was seen with Senator Abdul Ningi, who was suspended for accusing the 2024 budget of being padded by approximately ₦3 trillion.

Additionally, El-Rufai paid a visit to the headquarters of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Abuja, sparking debates on social media about his political intentions.

However, SDP national chair Shehu Gabam clarified that political meanings should not be read into the visit, as he has known El-Rufai for a long time, and the visit is not indicative of any political moves.

Gabam emphasized that politicians from various parties have visited him and that such visits should not be overanalyzed.

El-Rufai played a significant role in the merger that formed the APC in the buildup to the 2015 polls.

Despite the rumors, the Kaduna State House of Assembly has commenced a probe into “multi-million dollar loans” taken during the El-Rufai administration.

The APC’s denial of any plan to suspend El-Rufai indicates that the party is focused on maintaining unity and avoiding internal disputes as it navigates the political landscape.
