NNPCL and First E&P Begin Oil Production at Madu Field in Bayelsa

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and its Joint Venture (JV) partner, First Exploration and Petroleum Development Company Limited (First E&P), have commenced oil production at the Madu Field in Oil Mining Lease (OML) 85, located in the shallow waters offshore Bayelsa State.

This development is a significant step forward for Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, with the field expected to contribute an average of 20,000 barrels of oil per day to the national output.

The announcement was made by the NNPCL spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, who highlighted that this achievement is part of President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to optimizing the productivity of Nigeria’s oil and gas assets and creating a supportive environment for both existing and prospective investors.

Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., Mr Mele Kyari, emphasized that the start of production at the Madu Field is a testament to the administration’s dedication to driving revenue growth and boosting the national economy.

The Madu Field, along with its sister field Anyala, had their Final Investment Decision (FID) approved in 2018, paving the way for this milestone.

Oil from the Madu Field will be processed at the JV’s Abigail-Joseph Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit, which has a crude oil storage capacity of up to 800,000 barrels.

Kyari also noted that the addition of 20,000 barrels per day from an indigenous player significantly strengthens collective efforts towards achieving economic development and sustainability in Nigeria.

This development in the Madu Field is a positive step for Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, and it underscores the importance of collaboration between the government and private sector in driving economic growth and enhancing the country’s energy security.
