NLC Takes Action Against Labour Party: Picketing at Edo Secretariat and Nationwide Protests

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Thursday picketed the secretariat of the Labour Party in Edo State as part of its nationwide protests against the party’s leadership.

The union members were seen locking up the party’s secretariat with additional padlocks to the ones the party had used to lock its offices.

The NLC accused the LP’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, of financial rascality, intransigence, and contempt for the leadership of the NLC.

The union claimed that Abure had unilaterally attempted to hold a national convention of the party.

In response, the National Working Committee of the Labour Party accused the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, of attempting to replace Abure as the party’s National Chairman.

On Wednesday, the NLC had picketed the headquarters of the Labour Party in the Utako area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The union also directed its state councils to carry out similar actions at LP offices across the country.

The NLC’s actions have sent shockwaves through the political landscape, highlighting the growing rift between the union and the Labour Party.

As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the party will address the grievances of the NLC and whether this will have any impact on its future endeavors.
