Nigeria’s Defence Chief Meets NSA, EFCC Chairman, Emphasizes Need for Tracking Terrorism Financing

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, met with the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, on Thursday and Friday.

During the meetings, Gen. Musa stressed the importance of tracking terrorism financing, one of the non-kinetic approaches to the war against terrorism across the globe.

He also emphasized the need for the installation of CCTV cameras in strategic points to contain cases of corruption, terrorism, and other forms of insecurity in the country.

Gen. Musa discussed the use of census and technology to fight corruption and other forms of economic crimes, highlighting the importance of collaboration between the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) and the EFCC.

He also mentioned the AFN’s zero tolerance for corrupt practices and the use of General Court Martial proceedings to checkmate culpable personnel.

The Defence Chief urged the EFCC Chairman to encourage public office holders and other Nigerians in positions of authority to uphold good governance to forestall economic breakdown and insecurity.

He also mentioned the ongoing cooperation between the AFN and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to combat oil theft in the country.

In response, the EFCC Chairman congratulated Gen. Musa on his appointment and emphasized the importance of collaboration in the fight against corruption.

He acknowledged the AFN’s commitment to ensuring the survival of democratic rule and commended the Defence Chief for his unique approach to leveraging technology in the fight against corruption and other forms of economic crimes.

These meetings come at a crucial time, as the AFN and other security agencies continue to combat escalating security threats in the northern region of the country.

By emphasizing the need for tracking terrorism financing and promoting collaboration between agencies, Nigeria’s Defence Chief is taking a proactive approach to addressing the security challenges facing the nation.
