Nigerian Creators to Monetize Instagram as Tinubu-Led Government Partners with Meta

The Tinubu-led government has joined forces with Meta Platforms Incorporated to empower Nigerian creators to monetize their content on Instagram.

This initiative, set to be implemented in June 2024, is aimed at positioning Nigeria as the leading hub of information and communications technology (ICT) in Africa.

During a visit to President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja, Meta’s President of Global Affairs, Sir Nick Clegg, expressed gratitude for the executive order that paved the way for the landing of the Meta-backed deep-sea cable in Nigeria.

The cable, set to come on stream in the first quarter of 2025, is expected to yield up to 37 billion dollars worth of increase in economic activity in the next two or three years across the African continent.

President Tinubu emphasized the importance of technology in empowering small businesses and fostering widespread prosperity.

To achieve this, his administration is expanding avenues for opportunities in ICT, strengthening capabilities, and promoting alliances.

The government is also investing in digital technology to bolster the resilience of small businesses and broaden opportunities across various sectors.

The 3MTT program, which aims to train three million Nigerian youths in digital technology and essential skills before integrating them into innovation hubs nationwide, is a testament to the President’s commitment to empowering the nation’s most valuable asset: its youth.

The Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, highlighted the significance of Meta platforms in Nigeria and stressed the importance of partnerships and engagement to advance development in the digital economy sector.

He emphasized the need for continued engagement to create opportunities for Nigerians to participate in global prosperity, citing digital technology as a means to connect Africa and contribute to global development.

As Nigeria continues to embrace digital technology and strengthen its ties with global partners, the collaboration with Meta and the upcoming Instagram monetization feature for Nigerian creators are significant steps towards achieving the government’s vision of leading the African continent in digital technology and driving economic growth.
