Nigerian Army Dismisses Four Soldiers Over Murder of NSCDC Officer in Niger State

The Niger State Police Command has paraded four dismissed soldiers arrested for the murder of an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kingsley Chimetalo.
The Nigerian Army court-martialed and dismissed the soldiers before handing them over to the police for prosecution.
The incident occurred on March 9, 2024, when a team of NSCDC officers were conducting a stop and search operation in Bida Local Government Area of the state.
The four soldiers, who were not in uniform, arrived at the checkpoint on a motorcycle and were intercepted by the NSCDC team.
An altercation ensued when the soldiers could not provide proper identification, leading to a fight during which Chimetalo was stabbed in the back with a Jack-knife. He was rushed to FMC Bida, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The Niger State Police Command, in collaboration with the 18 Brigade, Nigeria Army Bida, identified six soldiers involved in the incident.
Two of the soldiers managed to escape, while the remaining four were handed over to the police for prosecution on May 20, 2024.
Sani Munzani, 24, from Kano State, confessed to stabbing Chimetalo during the altercation.
The four suspects are currently under investigation at the SCID Minna and will be charged to court for prosecution once the investigation is concluded.
This case highlights the importance of accountability and the rule of law within the Nigerian security forces.
The Nigerian Army’s swift action in court-martialing and dismissing the soldiers involved demonstrates a commitment to ensuring justice for the victim and his family.
