Nigeria Customs Service Warns Against Grain Export Amidst Food Crisis

The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adeniyi, has cautioned grain dealers at the Dawanau International grains market against exporting grains such as maize, beans, sorghum, and rice.

The Customs Service is set to fully implement the export prohibition act, which forbids the exportation of these specific grains in the country.

During a meeting with the leadership of the Dawanau International grains market in Kano, the Customs Comptroller General emphasized the need for food sufficiency in the country and the importance of understanding and cooperation from the market’s stakeholders.

The food crisis in Nigeria has prompted the government to take action and ensure that locally produced and imported grains remain within the country for consumption.

The Customs Service has intercepted over 120 trucks attempting to export grains across the country, highlighting the need for strict enforcement of the export prohibition act.

The CG, Adeniyi, stressed that every responsible organization or country takes such measures to manage their resources and ensure food security.

The Chairman of the market, Muttaka Isa, assured the Customs Service that traders in the market are not hoarding food items.

The CG, Adeniyi, acknowledged the importance of the market’s cooperation in preventing the export of essential grains during this critical time.

As the food crisis continues in Nigeria, the Customs Service is taking necessary steps to ensure that locally produced and imported grains are retained within the country to address the issue of food sufficiency.

By implementing the export prohibition act and seeking the understanding of stakeholders, the Customs Service aims to stabilize the food situation and prevent further strain on the nation’s resources.
