Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has won the APC primary race for Delta North Senatorial district. He defeated incumbent Senator Ned Nwoko decisively in voting across the nine local government areas.
Okowa polled 113,309 votes. Nwoko managed only 2,612 votes in the contest.
Speaking after his victory, Okowa pledged to represent Delta North faithfully if elected in 2027. He vowed to stay connected to his constituents through regular visits.
According to him, senators must maintain close ties with the people who elected them. "I thank my people for the love they have showered upon me," Okowa said.
He added: "I have one promise — that I will serve the people with all my heart." Okowa stressed the importance of physical presence in one's constituency.
"You cannot be a senator and stay away from your people because they sent you," he noted. "I expect to return home as regularly as possible to greet our people."
He assured voters that whenever his presence was needed, they would find him available. "I shall be a good representative of the good people of Delta North," Okowa concluded.
The former governor's victory marks a significant shift in Delta North politics. Nwoko's bid to retain his seat has ended in a resounding defeat.
