NDLEA Arrests 319 Suspects, Seizes 4.7 Tonnes of Illicit Drugs in Kano

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kano State has reported the arrest of 319 suspects and the seizure of 4.7 tonnes of illicit drugs between January and March 2024.

The NDLEA Commander in Kano State, Mr. Abubakar Idris- Ahmad, shared these figures in a recent interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The arrests include 14 females and 305 males, and the total drugs seized during this period consisted of 2.3 tonnes of marijuana and 2.4 tonnes of psychotropic substances.

The agency also confiscated over five million pills of tramadol and 1.9kg of other dangerous substances.

In the same period, the NDLEA secured 33 convictions of individuals involved in drug trafficking and other drug-related offenses.

Additionally, the agency rehabilitated 26 drug addicts, processed 38 visa clearances, and conducted 30 drug integrity tests for individuals and members of the state Emirate Council.

The NDLEA also dismantled 39 illicit drug joints that were serving as hubs for drug activities in the state.

Commander Idris- Ahmad has assured residents of Kano of adequate measures to ensure a peaceful and drug-free holiday during the forthcoming Eid-El-Fitr celebration.

He reiterated the NDLEA’s commitment to maintaining law and order during this festive period and preventing the spread of illicit drugs in the community.

The commander emphasized the NDLEA’s dedication to creating a drug-free society and ensuring the safety and well-being of the citizens of Kano.

He stressed that the agency will continue to work to dismantle drug trafficking networks, arrest perpetrators, and prevent the spread of drug abuse in the state.

This significant crackdown on drug trafficking and abuse reflects the NDLEA’s efforts to combat the drug menace in Kano State and promote a safer and healthier community for its residents.
