NCC: 90% of Data and Voice Services Restored After Undersea Cable Cuts

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has provided an update on the restoration of data and voice services affected by the cuts in undersea fibre optics last week.

According to the commission, up to 90% of the affected services have now been restored.

Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) have assured the NCC that services are operating at approximately 90% of their peak utilization capacities.

The MNOs have managed to activate alternative connectivities to bring the situation back to normalcy, pending full repairs of the undersea cables.

The cuts in undersea fibre optics along the coasts of Cote d’Ivoire and Senegal on March 14, 2024, disrupted data and voice services in Nigeria.

The NCC has been working with the MNOs to restore the services as quickly as possible.

The commission has extended its appreciation to telecom consumers for their patience and understanding during the downtime caused by the undersea fibre cuts.

It has also appealed to subscribers to exercise a little more patience as the full restoration of services is expected soon.

This incident highlights the importance of robust and resilient telecommunications infrastructure in Nigeria.

The NCC’s efforts to ensure the restoration of services and its collaboration with the MNOs demonstrate its commitment to providing reliable and efficient telecommunications services to the Nigerian population.
