BudgIT, a civic-tech non-profit organization, has released a report revealing that the National Assembly inserted 7,447 constituency projects worth N2.24 trillion in the 2024 budget.
The organization claims that most of these projects have “no national significance but narrowed to personal interests.”
The report comes in the wake of allegations of budget padding made by Abdul Ningi, the senator representing Bauchi central.
Ningi had accused the National Assembly of padding the 2024 budget by N3 trillion and claimed that the country is operating two budgets concurrently.
In response to the allegations, the National Assembly debated the issue during a rowdy session on Tuesday and subsequently suspended Ningi for three months.
