NAFDAC Raids Abuja Stores, Seizes Counterfeit Products Worth Millions

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has confiscated counterfeit products worth millions of naira.

The raids targeted popular supermarkets and markets in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), including Sahad Stores, H-Medix, and Utako Market.

The enforcement team, led by Mr Embugushiki-Musa Godiya, the NAFDAC Head of Investigation and Enforcement/Federal Taskforce, FCT, Abuja, discovered and seized counterfeit cosmetics and fake drugs during the operations.

The raids were based on intelligence gathered from concerned citizens, and the agency was able to recover goods worth millions of naira.

One of the most alarming discoveries was the sale of counterfeit NIVEA products at higher prices than the genuine NAFDAC-approved items.

The use of such substandard products could have severe health consequences, such as causing cancer, damaging the kidney, and causing rashes.

NAFDAC has called on Nigerians to be vigilant and avoid purchasing products from unauthorized sources, emphasizing the importance of checking for the NAFDAC registration number before buying any product.

The agency has also urged the public to stop patronizing drug hawkers and to report any suspicious activities to the authorities.

The raids are part of NAFDAC’s ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of Nigerian citizens by cracking down on the trade and distribution of counterfeit products.

The agency has a zero-tolerance policy for compromised standards and has promised to bring the perpetrators of these crimes to justice.

As NAFDAC continues to take action against counterfeiters, it is essential for consumers to remain informed and cautious when purchasing products.

By working together, the agency and the public can help maintain a safe and reliable supply of food, drugs, and other regulated products in Nigeria.
