Mother Arrested for Attempting to Kill Sick Child with Insecticide in Lagos

A mother was arrested for allegedly attempting to kill her one-year-and-seven-month-old daughter by giving her an insecticide to drink.

The incident came to light when the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) in Idi-Araba reported the matter to the police on Friday.

According to the Police spokesman, Superintendent Benjamin Hundeyin, the mother had brought her sick child to the hospital for treatment.

During a conversation with a doctor at the hospital, the mother confessed to giving the child the insecticide on Sunday when her convulsion was not abating.

The mother claimed she wanted the child to “rest from her excessive convulsions.”

Upon receiving the report, the police immediately dispatched detectives to the hospital. The child was found receiving treatment, and the mother was taken in for investigation.

This disturbing incident has raised concerns about the mental health of the mother and the welfare of the child.

It also highlights the need for increased awareness and support for families dealing with the challenges of caring for a sick child.

The police are currently investigating the case to determine the appropriate course of action, while the child continues to receive medical treatment.
