Minister Dangiwa Inaugurates 10th Quantity Surveyors Registration Board

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, has inaugurated the 10th board of the Quantity Surveyors Registration Board of Nigeria (QSRBN).

The event took place on March 27, 2024 at 9:54 AM, with the newly appointed board members being charged to uphold the principles of integrity, honesty, transparency, and fairness in their professional duties.

The QSRBN, a professional regulatory agency under the supervision of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, is responsible for regulating and controlling the practice of Quantity Surveying in Nigeria.

The 15-member board comprises six appointees of the ministry, five representatives from the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS), and four representatives from institutions of higher education.

During the inauguration ceremony, Minister Dangiwa emphasized the importance of the board’s role in addressing the challenges faced by the housing sector through collaboration with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.

He also outlined the board’s responsibilities, which include determining the standards of knowledge and skills for Quantity Surveyors, regulating and controlling the practice of Quantity Surveying, and promoting the profession within Nigeria and internationally.

The minister called on the board members to leverage their experience and professional training to contribute to national development and reduce the high cost of construction projects and procurement in the country.

He pointed out that the construction sector is a major driver of employment and economic growth, and the board’s efforts in this regard would have a significant impact on the national economy.

Responding on behalf of the new board, Obafemi Oluwole Onashile, pledged to work without prejudice and in collaboration with the federal government, the NIQS, and other stakeholders to upscale the impact of the Quantity Surveying profession on the national economy of Nigeria.

This inauguration marks a crucial step towards enhancing the efficiency and transparency of the construction industry in Nigeria, with the newly appointed board expected to play a vital role in driving the sector’s growth and contributing to the nation’s overall development.
