Military Invasion Leaves 11 Dead in Bayelsa Community: A Tragic Aftermath

A military invasion has left 11 dead in the Igbomotoru community of Southern Ijaw local government area in Bayelsa State.

The tragic incident unfolded as soldiers, onboard five gunboats, stormed the area in search of a militant leader allegedly involved in the killing of military men on a rescue mission in Delta State.

The community has been left in shambles as the troops arrived, shooting sporadically at residents relaxing on the jetty before setting ablaze three buildings believed to be the hideout of the said militant leader.

A community source reported that 11 bodies have been recovered, with many others still unaccounted for as of the time of this report.

The aftermath of the invasion has left the community devastated, with lives lost, properties destroyed, and the emotional toll on the people immeasurable.

The source expressed concern that life in Igbomotoru can never be the same, as the incident has disrupted even the most basic of community events, such as the scheduled burial of a local resident.

As the community struggles to cope with the aftermath, the source has appealed to the federal and state government to intervene and address the situation.

They have emphasized that the people of Igbomotoru had no involvement in the events that transpired in Delta State and have called upon the international community for assistance.

In response to the killing of 16 soldiers in Delta State, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has denied any reprisal attacks, but has stated that there will still be consequences.

The situation remains tense as the community grapples with the devastating consequences of the military invasion.
