Soldiers under Operation Hadin Kai have apprehended a man suspected of spying for ISWAP. The arrest follows intelligence reports about a planned assault on military installations in Borno.
Muhammad Shuaibu was detained by troops of 212 Battalion at their Chabbol base. Guards spotted him during a routine patrol some 500 metres from the anti-vehicle ditch.
According to counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, the military had received credible human intelligence beforehand. This tip-off enabled them to heighten vigilance in the area.
Investigators say Shuaibu confessed to knowledge of an attack on two targets. Both 199 Special Forces Battalion, known as Mosquito Camp, and the Chabbol FOB were in the terrorists' sights.
During questioning, he revealed the operation would proceed regardless of his capture. Authorities didn't specify when the assault was scheduled to occur.
Military officials immediately upgraded security protocols at both bases after the arrest. They reinforced perimeter defenses and increased patrol frequencies in vulnerable zones.
Shuaibu's case has been transferred to 7 Military Intelligence Brigade for deeper investigation. Interrogators will seek details about ISWAP's structure and operational plans in the region.
Operation Hadin Kai continues dismantling terrorist networks across Nigeria's northeast through intelligence work. The operation aims to degrade insurgent capabilities and protect military personnel from attacks.
