Military Deploys Armored Vehicles in Bomadi Creeks Following Soldiers’ Killing in Nigeria

The Nigerian military has deployed armored vehicles and personnel to Bomadi, Delta State, following the killing of soldiers on a peace and rescue mission in the Okuama community of Ughelli South Local Government Area.

The military is investigating the incident, which has led to increased tensions in the region.

On Sunday, armored vehicles and soldiers were seen crossing the Bomadi Bridge, possibly heading to the creeks where the incident occurred.

The military is currently occupying Okuama, with reports of the demolition of several houses in the community. Soldiers from the 181 Amphibious Battalion of the military Joint Task Force, JTF, Bomadi Division, led by the commander, Maj. Jaffa, were ambushed and killed while attempting to rescue a hostage, Mr. Anthony Aboh, from a neighboring community.

The situation escalated when more soldiers were killed the following day.

A renowned ex-militant leader and his group, who were allegedly hired by Okuama to fight against their neighboring Okoloba community, are considered prime suspects in the attack. These suspects are currently on the run.

As a result of the conflict, many residents, particularly children and women, have fled the community and are now seeking refuge with relatives in neighboring communities in Ughelli South Local Government Area.

The increased military presence has caused fear and anxiety among the local population, with some expressing concerns about a potential humanitarian crisis in the area.

In response to the crisis, the Nigerian military has deployed armored vehicles and personnel to the Bomadi creeks to investigate the killings and maintain security in the region.

The Delta State Government has issued a statement on the matter, urging the public to remain calm and cooperate with the authorities.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Nigeria’s military in maintaining peace and security in the Niger Delta region, where tensions over land disputes, resource control, and other issues continue to cause unrest.

The deployment of armored vehicles and personnel to the Bomadi creeks is a sign of the government’s commitment to addressing these challenges and ensuring the safety of its citizens.
