Soldiers fighting insurgents in Nigeria's North-East have arrested suspected militants and recovered explosives in recent operations. The Nigerian Army released the update on May 4, 2026.
In Yobe State's Ngamdu area, troops detained two men during patrols. The suspects, identified as Haruna Adamu, 32, and Ibrahim Adamu, 20, were found with phones, a power bank, and suspected drugs.
A separate arrest happened at Ngamdu Market the same day. Soldiers caught Ali Muhammad, 30, described as a Boko Haram and ISWAP informant operating under the watch of security agencies.
According to the army, Muhammad carried cash, a mobile phone, and a notebook listing contacts believed tied to terrorist groups. "The suspect has been handed over to Sector 2 Headquarters for further interrogation," the military stated.
Around Mubi in Adamawa State, night operations led to five arrests. Troops said they recovered ammunition and other items from suspected drug dealers now in custody.
In Madagali Local Government Area, soldiers and civilian fighters rescued two kidnapped children. Barnabas Apagu, 12, and Ruth Apagu, 10, were recovered after troops responded to reports of the abduction.
Search efforts continue for other captives still missing from that incident. The military didn't release details about how many others remained unaccounted for.
Kukareta area in Yobe State saw troops find a hand grenade abandoned by fleeing extremists. Personnel secured the explosive following standard safety protocols.
All arrested individuals have been transferred to relevant agencies for investigation. Military operations across the North-East region are continuing, authorities confirmed.
