Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Police Command have successfully raided hideouts in Yaba, leading to the arrest of 40 suspects.
This bold operation was confirmed by Mr. Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson of the Command, through a post on his verified X handle @benHundeyin on May 3, 2024.
The arrests were made on Tuesday night, around 10:00 PM, when the RRS, in collaboration with the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency, targeted different black spots within the Yaba area.
This decisive action was a response to complaints from the public regarding the rampant activities of criminals who were known to rob unsuspecting passersby of their belongings.
Mr. Olayinka Egbeyemi, the RRS Commander, executed the operation following the approval of the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adegoke Fayoade.
Prior to the raid, the operatives had been directed to conduct discreet surveillance of the area, ensuring the operation's success.
Following the arrests, a thorough screening process was conducted at the RRS Headquarters in Alausa, resulting in the release of nine suspects to their family members.
The remaining 31 suspects have been ordered by Mr. Egbeyemi to be charged to court, in accordance with the directives of the Commissioner of Police.
This recent police raid underscores the commitment of the Lagos State Police Command to combating crime and ensuring the safety and security of its residents.
