A 70-year-old pilgrim from Nasarawa State has died in Makkah. Hajiya Rukayya Haliru, who was from Keffi local government, passed away Wednesday morning.

Her death was confirmed by the Nasarawa State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board. Mallam Idris Ahmad Almakura, the board's Executive Secretary, disclosed the incident to journalists in the holy city.

According to Almakura, Hajiya Rukayya fell ill during her pilgrimage. Medical teams treated her, but she didn't survive the illness.

Board officials and family members were present at the hospital. They oversaw preparations for moving her body to the Grand Mosque.

The Janazah funeral prayer was performed there. This is a crucial Islamic rite for the deceased.

Almakura urged other pilgrims to take their health seriously. He advised them to report symptoms immediately to medical staff attached to the board.

The board sent condolences to Nasarawa State government officials. The family of Hajiya Rukayya also received the board's sympathies.

Abdulwab Aboki, a relative, spoke to journalists after the ceremony. In his words, the family appreciated the board's support throughout the difficult period.

Aboki commended the board for its transparency in handling the matter. He said the family felt well-supported during this tragedy.
