Former Secretary to the Delta State Government, Comrade (Chief) Ovuozourie Samuel Macaulay, has urged the Elders and Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State to exercise restraint regarding the alleged plans to suspend the State Chairman, Chief Omeni Sobotie from the party.
Macaulay issued this call for calm in a statement to the press in Asaba, the State Capital, on Saturday, as he responded to the ongoing tensions within the APC.
He emphasized that the party cannot afford to be divided at such a critical time when unity is essential for building a formidable opposition.
Macaulay, a Chieftain of the party, acknowledged that those criticizing Elder Sobotie’s leadership style have the right to do so but stressed the importance of resolving misunderstandings internally.
Reminding party leaders that Elder Sobotie’s leadership term is nearing its end, Macaulay underscored the need to avoid crises that could disrupt a smooth transition.
He stated, “Anything contrary to the smooth running of our party during these remaining months before the Congress will not be beneficial. Any disruption could lead to issues that the party might struggle to resolve.”
Macaulay appealed to all party leaders and members to remain calm, put aside their differences, and support the party’s reconciliation efforts.
"I am therefore appealing to all party leaders and party faithfuls to remain calm and sheath their swords and give the reconciliation mechanisms of the party a chance", Macaulay advised.
