Leicester City has announced Steve Cooper as their new manager, following the breakdown of talks with former Brighton boss Graham Potter.
Cooper, who was previously in charge of Nottingham Forest, has signed a three-year contract with the club, which recently secured promotion back to the Premier League.
Cooper will take charge for the first time against Tottenham on August 19. Despite being sacked by Forest last December, the 44-year-old is set to lead Leicester City in their return to the top flight.
In an open letter to fans, Cooper expressed his pride in joining a club with a rich history: "I am very proud to be joining a club with a rich history. I want to thank Khun Top for the opportunity to manage Leicester City."
He also acknowledged Leicester's recent successes, including their 2016 Premier League title and 2021 FA Cup win, and emphasized his commitment to building on those achievements: "As the new manager, I don't take that legacy lightly. My job will be to build on those achievements and to bring everyone along – players, staff, and fans."
Leicester City has been seeking a new manager since Enzo Maresca left for Chelsea. While initial talks with Graham Potter fell through, and compensation issues hindered a move for West Brom's Carlos Corberan, the club decided to turn to Cooper.
The appointment of Cooper marks a new chapter for Leicester City as they look to establish themselves once again in the Premier League.
The club will be hoping that Cooper's experience and leadership will help them achieve their goals in the upcoming season.
