Former senator Gbenga Ashafa has called on Lagos residents to back the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, in the 2027 election. Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Lagos, Ashafa said Hamzat possesses the competence and leadership skills needed to keep Lagos moving forward.

Voting for Hamzat means voting for continuity, progress and faster socio-economic growth across the state, Ashafa argued. "Dr Hamzat is a tested and trusted public servant with an outstanding record of performance," he told reporters.

Ashafa stressed that Lagosians can safely place the state's future in Hamzat's hands given his proven capacity, integrity and dedication to public service. He described the APC candidate as widely accepted and marketable, with achievements that have won him support across Lagos.

"Hamzat is a sellable candidate with proven competence and experience," Ashafa said. He urged all residents to support him as a symbol of purposeful and people-focused governance.

The former lawmaker called on party members and supporters to step up grassroots mobilisation and community engagement before the 2027 general election. "The strength of the APC has always been its grassroots support," he noted.

Ashafa said every party member should act as an ambassador, reaching out to families, neighbours and communities with messages about continuity and development. He dismissed claims of divisions within the APC, insisting members remain united and focused.

"There is no division within our party. We are united, focused and determined to deliver victory for Dr Hamzat and President Bola Tinubu," he said.

According to him, challenges from the 2023 general election in Lagos have only strengthened the party's resolve to work harder.

Ashafa expressed confidence that the APC will win by a wide margin in Lagos and across Nigeria in 2027. "I am optimistic that Nigerians and Lagosians will once again renew their confidence in the APC because of its achievements and commitment to national development," he added.

He commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for achievements in infrastructure, transportation, education, healthcare and economic development. "Gov.

Sanwo-Olu has laid a solid foundation through impactful projects and people-centred policies," Ashafa said.

Hamzat understands the governor's vision and has the ability to build on these gains for all Lagosians, he noted. Ashafa also urged youths, women and first-time voters to get their Permanent Voter Cards and take part actively in elections.

He stressed that their votes will shape Lagos's future. "Our democracy can only grow when citizens participate actively in elections," he told reporters.

Ashafa encouraged all eligible voters to register, obtain their PVCs and vote responsibly for credible leaders capable of delivering good governance. He remained confident in Hamzat's leadership and optimistic his administration will deepen inclusive governance and promote economic prosperity across the state.
