Lagos State Issues 48-Hour Quit Notice to Illegal Occupants of Ikoyi Towers and Underbridge Structures

The Lagos State Government has given a 48-hour quit notice to illegal occupants of abandoned Ikoyi Towers in Lagos Island, citing security threats and environmental nuisance.
The notice was issued by the state’s Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, during an inspection of various sites, including the Federal Government-owned Ikoyi Towers.
Wahab highlighted the presence of undocumented persons in the premises, posing a security risk and lacking proper sanitary facilities.
The occupants, running into hundreds, engage in daily activities that are difficult to ascertain.
The government has directed these individuals to vacate the area within 48 hours.
In addition to the Ikoyi Towers situation, the inspection team observed stagnant water bodies in the canal at Ebutte Elefun – Adeniji Adele, Lagos Island, and illegal structures and business activities such as block/cement moulding along the fence of Ebutte Elefun High School.
The government has ordered the removal of these infractions to address flooding and safeguard lives.
This recent development is part of the Lagos State Government’s ongoing efforts to clamp down on illegal structures and activities to mitigate flooding and protect public safety.
Last week, the government cleared illegal structures in under-bridge apartments where occupants were paying as much as N250,000 per year.
The state government’s actions underline its commitment to maintaining a safe and sustainable environment for its residents and ensuring compliance with regulations to prevent adverse impacts on the community.
