Lagos State Government Threatens Uber with Sanctions over Non-Compliance with Regulations

The Lagos State Government has expressed its deep dismay over Uber Technologies System Nigeria Limited’s continuous defiance of established regulations, particularly regarding critical Application Program Interface (API) integration for enhanced safety and security.

In a recent statement, the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, emphasized the non-negotiable nature of the API integration, which enables real-time data sharing for government monitoring and accountability during active trips.

This integration is essential for fostering a secure and regulated transportation ecosystem for the well-being of all Lagos State residents.

The commissioner stressed that immediate corrective action is necessary to rectify Uber’s non-compliance with the Data Sharing Agreement and API integration of the state.

He urged Uber to urgently seek resolution within the established regulatory framework, warning that non-compliance would result in stern sanctions in strict accordance with the state laws and regulations.

Furthermore, Osiyemi advised Uber’s users to take caution as the sanction would affect their operations as well.

In light of these developments, it is crucial for Uber to address the issue of non-compliance and work towards meeting the regulatory requirements set by the Lagos State Government.

Failure to do so could have significant consequences for both the company and its users in the region.
