Lagos police say there's no credible threat of a school attack in the state right now. The clarification came after threatening notices circulated online about a planned abduction.
SP Abimbola Adebisi released the statement on June 8, 2026. He represents the Lagos State Police Command's public relations unit.
Officers became aware of the threatening messages and immediately launched an investigation. They found no verified intelligence backing up the claims made in the notice.
CP Tijani Fatai, the commissioner, ordered urgent security assessments across affected zones. He also directed more police presence at schools and critical facilities statewide.
Security operatives have already fanned out to educational institutions and communities. They're working alongside other agencies to beef up patrols in strategic areas.
"There is presently no verified intelligence indicating any imminent threat of such an attack within Lagos State," the police statement read. Parents and school authorities should rest easy, officials insisted.
Authorities warned that Lagos remains safe and secure for residents. Anyone attempting to spread fear would face prosecution, they added.
"The Command will not tolerate any attempt by miscreants, bandits, kidnappers or other criminal elements to threaten the peace and safety of residents," according to the statement.
Police are asking the public to stay alert and report suspicious activity. Residents should contact nearby police stations or call emergency lines with credible tips.
Community cooperation is vital in fighting crime, officials stressed. They emphasized that timely information helps prevent attacks before they happen.
Parents concerned about safety should contact their children's schools for updates. Schools have also been advised to strengthen their own security measures.
