Lagos Assembly Urges Safety Corps to Prepare for State Police

The Lagos State House of Assembly has urged the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency to prepare for the emergence of state police.

During a recent visit to the agency’s office, the Chairman of the Assembly’s Committee on Information, Security and Strategy, Stephen Ogundipe, commended the management of the agency and the Corps, led by General Manager Ifalade Oyekan, for their significant progress in community policing.

Ogundipe emphasized the importance of continuous improvement and urged the agency not to rest on its laurels as the state moves towards establishing a state police force to address the country’s growing security concerns.

The agency’s efforts to improve service delivery and demonstrate effective community policing practices have been well-received by the Assembly, which has provided legislative and oversight support.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s unwavering commitment to the safety of lives and properties in the state has been a driving force behind the agency’s determination to live up to its mandate in the governor’s T.H.E.M.E.S. Plus Agenda.

The agency expressed gratitude to the Assembly, the visiting committee, and Speaker Mudashiru Obasa for their support.

President Bola Tinubu recently convened an emergency meeting with the 36 state governors to establish a committee tasked with creating the framework for state police forces.

This development underscores the need for agencies like the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency to be well-prepared for the transition.

The Lagos State House of Assembly’s call for the agency to prepare for the state police demonstrates the state’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its residents, and the agency’s dedication to continuous improvement and service delivery.
