Kwara State University Takes Initiative to Convert Grounded Vehicles to Electric

Kwara State University (KWASU) has taken a bold step to convert the grounded vehicles of the state-owned transport corporation, Kwara Express, to electric vehicles.

The university’s technical team, led by acting vice chancellor Prof. Shaykh Luqman Jimoh, announced the plan during a recent visit to the transport corporation’s premises in Ilorin, the state capital.

The university’s Centre for Sustainable Energy, led by Dr Adesina Lambe, possesses the technical expertise to convert the vehicles seamlessly.

One of the vehicles that transported the team to Kwara Express is a recently converted electric vehicle, showcasing the university’s capabilities.

The CEO of Kwara Harmony Holdings, Mrs Mojirola Afolayan, expressed her delight and gratitude towards the state governor, AbdulRahaman AbdulRazaq, for supporting the initiative.

The conversion of the vehicles to electric ones will provide much-needed relief for the corporation.

Engr. Yusuf Abubakar, the acting general manager of Kwara Express, also praised the governor’s decision and welcomed the university’s collaboration.

The head of the technical unit at the Centre for Sustainable Energy, Engr Azeez Akande, highlighted the benefits of electric vehicles, including lower maintenance costs, ease of use, and the ability to be charged using various power sources such as electricity, generating sets, and solar power.

The conversion of Kwara Express’s grounded vehicles to electric vehicles is a significant step in the state’s efforts to promote sustainable transportation and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

This initiative demonstrates the potential for collaboration between academic institutions and government agencies to drive innovation and address local challenges.

As Kwara State University takes on this ambitious project, it sets an example for other universities and organizations to explore innovative solutions to transportation challenges and contribute to a greener and more sustainable future.
