The Kwankwasiyya Movement has commended aspirants who withdrew or accepted outcomes from its consensus selection process. It called their actions a sign of political maturity that will strengthen the group's election bid in Kano.
Habibu Sale Mohammed, the movement's spokesperson, issued the statement on Saturday. He said the aspirants' willingness to put collective goals above personal interests had boosted the movement's standing as one of Nigeria's most disciplined political groups.
The praise comes as the movement pushes hard to rally support for Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidates. Election season in Kano State is approaching.
Aspirants in the consensus process sought nominations for governor, Senate, House of Representatives, and State Assembly positions. Many chose to step back or accept different roles, the movement noted.
Senator Rufa'i Sani Hanga drew special recognition from the leadership. He stepped aside so that Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, former Kano deputy governor, could emerge as the consensus senatorial candidate.
Former Governor Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya also received praise for his conduct. He accepted the selection of Nasir Batayya, ex-president of the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners, as the Kano South senatorial candidate.
Across the state, several other aspirants relinquished their bids or accepted alternative duties. This protected unity within the movement, according to the statement.
"The strength of any political movement lies not only in its ability to produce candidates but also in the willingness of its members to place collective interests above personal ambitions," the statement read. The movement emphasized this principle repeatedly.
Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo won selection as the NDC's governorship candidate. The movement said his emergence reflected confidence from leadership and rank-and-file members alike.
All senatorial, House, and State Assembly nominees also received congratulations. Officials stressed that these nominations carry heavy responsibility.
The movement told its candidates to see themselves as movement ambassadors, not just office seekers. They must embody the group's core values, it said.
Campaign messaging should focus on issues, the statement urged. Candidates must show humility, discipline, integrity, and a genuine commitment to good governance and public service.
The movement warned that voter confidence must be repaid through responsible leadership. Sustained contact with communities will prove essential, officials added.
Kwankwasiyya leaders called on members and supporters to stay united and focused. Electoral victories for the NDC depend on this cohesion, they said.
