Kano police have arrested 345 suspected criminals in a major operation. Commissioner Ibrahim Adamu Bakori announced the sweep at headquarters in Bompai on Thursday.
The crackdown targeted drug dealers and armed thugs across the state. Officers conducted raids between June 5 and 7 in all 44 local government areas.
According to Bakori, the operation was intelligence-driven and hit known criminal strongholds. It focused on disrupting illicit drug networks operating in Kano.
Of those arrested, 187 were picked up during the three-day clearance operation. The remainder came from earlier raids and ongoing investigations.
Police recovered 270 weapons including knives, cutlasses and clubs. Officers also seized large quantities of Cannabis Sativa, Exol tablets and a locally made drink called "Suck and Die."
All suspects are in custody undergoing interrogation. Bakori said they'd face prosecution where evidence supports charges.
Two special units drove the operation's success. Operation Kukan Kura and the newly launched Violent Crime Response Unit improved police visibility across the state.
"No form of criminality will be entertained in Kano State," Bakori declared at the briefing. He promised sustained pressure until crime becomes impossible.
In his words, suspects would face due process. Every person in custody will go through proper legal channels.
Bakori praised the Kano State Government for backing the operation. He urged residents to report criminal activity to police.
All information shared by the public would remain confidential, he assured. Trust between communities and police remains essential to fighting crime.
Criminals should know Kano isn't safe for their activities anymore. The police commissioner warned that the Command won't relent in protecting residents.
Community safety remains the priority going forward. Police plan to deepen engagement with locals while maintaining tactical pressure on criminal elements.
