Police in Kano have successfully returned a lost bag to its rightful owner. The recovery highlights the importance of honesty in communities across Nigeria.
A tricycle operator, Abba Abdullahi Abubakar, found the bag on November 8, 2025. A passenger had mistakenly left it behind while traveling from Hotoro to Naibawa Yan Lemo.
Abba made determined efforts to track down the owner. He even announced the lost bag on local radio stations.
When his search proved fruitless, he took the bag to police headquarters in Bompai. Officers there kept it safe pending the owner's arrival.
Police released a public notice about the recovered item. Abdullahi Saleh, from Bursali Village in Zaki Local Government Area of Bauchi State, soon came forward.
Inside the bag were clothing materials and cash. Saleh provided proper identification before claiming his property.
Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the Commissioner of Police in Kano, commended both men. "Such conduct strengthens public trust in the police," Bakori noted.
He highlighted the importance of honesty and integrity in society. According to him, these values promote stronger community-police partnerships.
Bakori urged the public to continue supporting police efforts. He said returning lost property to owners helps build community confidence in law enforcement.
The case reflects growing citizen cooperation with security agencies nationwide. It demonstrates that everyday Nigerians remain committed to doing the right thing.
