Kano Patriots Criticize Governor Yusuf Over Probe of Predecessor Ganduje

The Kano Patriots, a prominent pro-democracy group, has criticized Governor Abba Yusuf for initiating a probe into the alleged corruption and misappropriation of public properties under his predecessor, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

Governor Yusuf inaugurated two judicial commissions of inquiry to investigate the allegations, but the group has accused him of playing petty politics and wasting the state’s resources and time.

The Kano Patriots’ President, Barr. Aliyu Mohammed, issued a statement questioning the Governor’s decision to limit the scope of the investigation to Ganduje’s tenure from 2015 to 2023, while excluding the tenure of Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, who is of the same political lineage with Yusuf.

The group accused the Governor of engaging in political rivalry rather than focusing on governance and addressing the needs of Kano’s people.

Governor Yusuf has also urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to release the result of its probe into the alleged dollar bribery video involving Ganduje.

However, the Kano Patriots argue that the Governor should prioritize governance over politics and concentrate on improving the lives of Kano’s citizens.

The group’s statement highlights the challenge of distinguishing between politics and governance and emphasizes the importance of leaders focusing on delivering effective governance rather than engaging in political battles.

As Governor Yusuf’s administration continues to navigate this controversy, the question remains whether the probe will lead to tangible improvements in governance or exacerbate political divisions within the state.
