Kano Governor Appeals for Border Reopening to Combat Food Scarcity

Addressing the pressing issue of food scarcity in Nigeria, Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reopen the country’s borders for the importation of food items.

This comes as a response to the growing concerns over the hike in the price of commodities and the resulting hunger and starvation faced by the Nigerian masses.

During a meeting with the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Alhaji Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, at Government House in Kano, Governor Yusuf expressed his appreciation for President Tinubu’s intervention on the ongoing national food initiative, which considers Kano as the host for the initiative to be launched.

The Governor believes that the program, if implemented, will help alleviate the effects of food scarcity in the country.

Governor Yusuf emphasized the hardships faced by the populace, particularly during the sacred month of Ramadan, and stressed the need for the Federal Government to consider reopening the borders to ease the distress of the people.

He also commended the Customs’ initiative to distribute food items to the citizens of Kano and urged them to ensure that the aid reaches those most affected by hunger and hardship.

Comptroller-General Adeniyi, during his visit to Kano, acknowledged the importance of strengthening the relationship between the Nigeria Customs Service and the Kano community.

He pledged to implement policies aimed at improving business processes and enhancing engagement with stakeholders.

In light of the current challenges of food scarcity and hardship in Kano, the Nigeria Customs Service has announced comprehensive plans to distribute essential food items to the state’s residents.

This move is expected to provide much-needed relief to the people of Kano and contribute to alleviating the food crisis in Nigeria.

As the nation grapples with the issue of food scarcity, the appeal by Governor Yusuf and the efforts of the Nigeria Customs Service highlight the urgency of addressing the problem and ensuring that the Nigerian masses have access to affordable and sufficient food.
