Kaduna State Assembly Launches Probe into El-Rufai’s Financial Transactions and Projects

The Kaduna State House of Assembly has initiated a comprehensive investigation into the financial transactions, loans, grants, and project execution undertaken by the Nasir El-Rufai administration between 2015 and 2023.

The decision to probe the former governor’s administration was made public during a plenary session on Tuesday, as the Assembly seeks to scrutinize the financial management and project implementation under El-Rufai’s tenure.

The motion for the probe was moved by Hon. Yusuf Mugu, the member representing Kaura constituency, citing concerns about the loans borrowed during El-Rufai’s tenure.

The House Speaker, Hon. Yusuf Dahiru Liman, subsequently approved the establishment of a 13-member ad hoc committee, which has been tasked with inviting relevant stakeholders for questioning and investigation.

These stakeholders include former speakers of the 8th and 9th Assembly, commissioners of finance, former managing directors of Kaduna markets, and commissioners of budget and planning.

The probe comes in the wake of recent revelations by Governor Uba Sani, who has expressed difficulties in managing the affairs of the state due to the substantial debt incurred by the previous administration.

The outcome of the investigation will shed light on the financial practices and project execution under El-Rufai’s administration, and could potentially provide insights into how the current administration can address the state’s debt challenges moving forward.

As the probe unfolds, it is essential that the ad hoc committee conducts a thorough and transparent investigation to ensure accountability and promote good governance in Kaduna State.

The findings of the investigation will not only contribute to the state’s financial recovery but also set a precedent for future administrations to maintain responsible fiscal practices.
