Joint Security Team Rescues 14 Passengers, 4 Missing in Kankara Abduction

A security team comprising the Police, the Nigerian Military, and members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps successfully rescued 14 passengers abducted by armed bandits on Thursday in Kankara, Katsina State.

The incident occurred around 1:30 pm when suspected bandits intercepted a Katsina State Transport Authority (KTSTA) bus traveling between Funtua and Katsina.

According to earlier reports, the gunmen, armed with AK-47 rifles, reportedly intercepted the bus at Gidan Kifi village on the Marabar-Kankara Road and kidnapped all passengers on board.

However, the joint task force was able to mobilize and engage the kidnappers in a gun battle, ultimately rescuing 14 out of the 18 kidnapped victims.

ASP Abubakar Sadiq, the spokesperson of the Katsina Police Command, confirmed the rescue operation in a press release on Thursday night.

He also stated that the police are currently investigating the situation and working diligently to locate the missing individuals.

The joint security team has deployed officers in the area where the abduction took place and is conducting a thorough search while following all leads to find the missing passengers.

This rescue operation demonstrates the commitment of the Nigerian security forces in combating criminal activities and protecting the lives and property of citizens.
