Jigawa State Governor Suspends Commissioner Over Ramadan Feeding Fund Misappropriation

Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi has taken decisive action by suspending the state commissioner of finance, Hon. Aminu Kanta, over alleged misappropriation of funds allocated for the Ramadan feeding programme.

The state government had previously approved a total of N2,160,545,470 for the feeding initiative during the holy month of Ramadan.

The suspension was announced following the outcome of a state executive council meeting, during which the interim report for the 1445AH/2024 Ramadan Feeding Programme was presented by the Honorable Commissioner for Special Duties.

As a result, a six-member committee has been constituted to investigate the activities of the Ramadan Feeding Programme in Babura Local Government Area.

The committee, headed by the Head of Service (HOS), also includes the Commissioner of Special Duties, the Commissioner of Justice, the Commissioner of Agriculture, the Commissioner of Information, and the PPS to the Governor as its secretary.

They have been given two weeks to investigate and report back their findings.

This move by Governor Namadi demonstrates a commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in the state’s administration, particularly in the management of public funds.

The suspension of the finance commissioner sends a strong message that the government will not tolerate any form of financial misconduct, especially when it concerns the welfare of the people during a sacred period like Ramadan.

As the investigation progresses, the people of Jigawa State and Nigeria as a whole await the findings of the committee, which could potentially lead to further actions against those found guilty of misappropriating public funds.

This case serves as a reminder of the importance of good governance and the need for strict adherence to financial regulations and ethical practices.
