The Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area, Friday Ovoke Warri, has officially launched the distribution of 17,000 exercise books to pupils in 48 primary schools across the local government area.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held on Tuesday at Okpolo Enhwe Primary School, Warri stated that the initiative aligns with his "Warri for Your Worries" campaign promises and supports Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E. agenda for improving education in Delta State. He commended the governor for his commitment to quality education and emphasized his own passion for investing in the future of young learners, recognizing them as the "leaders of tomorrow."
"Education plays a critical role in the development of any nation, and we must invest in this sector to enhance growth. For those of us who completed our education in Nigerian public schools, we are here to encourage you to take your learning seriously. Today, we are not campaigning; we are here to address educational concerns in Isoko South, and you can expect M.O.R.E. from our administration," Warri stated.
He urged headmasters and mistresses to ensure the books reach all learners, warning against hoarding or selling them. Warri also pledged to rehabilitate the Okpolo Enhwe Headmaster’s Quarters, stating that the renovation would allow the headmaster to reside within the school premises instead of commuting from Ughelli to Enhwe daily.
The Isoko South Local Government Authority Secretary, Pius Emamowho, described the initiative as a "positive turnaround" in educational development, noting that the distribution of exercise books and the promise of school rehabilitation would ease financial burdens on parents and enhance students' learning experiences.
Receiving the donated notebooks on behalf of the schools, Conference Afedhae, head of the Isoko South Headmasters Association, expressed deep appreciation to the council chairman, praying that God would reward his efforts toward improving education in the region.
Dignitaries at the event included the Vice Chairman of Isoko South, Theresa Ikrike; Leader of the Isoko South Legislative Arm, Bright Odiologbo; the HPM; Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Isoko South; councillors; political appointees; supporters; and members of the public.
